Book excerpt: If you have no time to follow the market closely, then Trend Trading is the book for you. Trend trading is one of the most effective and easy-to-use methods for making money in the market. Success depends on identifying the trend with confidence and catching the trend after it has started, and on getting out as soon as possible after the uptrend turns into a downtrend. The book examines in detail the steps in finding, assessing, selecting, managing and monitoring a long-term trend trade. These are proven, successful methods which are easy to understand and apply. Included are the most recent updates and developments in using the count back line and the Guppy Multiple Moving Average. Daryl Guppy also includes a practical look at setting stop loss conditions to protect capital and profits, and a bonus section on Darvas-style trend trading which is the first significant update of this technique in forty years. Trend Trading shows readers how to use and apply the analysis tools to find effective long-term trades. These can be applied to any group of selected stocks, whether chosen on fundamental criteria, from stock tip newsletters, or found using database technical scans. From this starting point, Guppy shows how the better trades are identified, how risk is managed, and how the trades are closed successfully. The book includes examples of Daryl's personal trades.

Book excerpt: Jan & Dean were among the most successful artists of the late 1950s through the mid-1960s, with hits including "Baby Talk," "Surf City," "Dead Man's Curve" and "The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena)." Slapstick humor and offbeat personas were a big part of their shtick, but Jan Berry was serious when it came to the studio. This book chronicles Jan's career as a songwriter and arranger--and his tenure as producer for Jan & Dean and other acts--with day-by-day entries detailing recording sessions, single and album releases, concerts and appearances, film and television projects, behind-the-scenes business and legal matters, chart positions and more. Extensive commentary from Berry's family, friends and colleagues is included. Studio invoices, contract details, tape box notes, copyright information and other particulars shed light on how music was made in the Hollywood studio system of the 1960s.

Panepinto and published by BookLocker.com. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Father's Path looks at the unique relationship of fathers and sons through a developmental lens, offering valuable ideas to build, strengthen, understand, and mend relationships. The Path offers an intergenerational view of son to father to son and suggests that the journey of fatherhood can be better understood across this wider span of time. Only then can a father see where he came from, how times have changed, and how these changes can influence the relationship for better or worse. And from this wider view, a father can look ahead, more hopeful, more capable, and more empathic in the role. A Father's Path not only looks at fathers and sons, but offers a view of the space in between. For here is where the quality of connection runs from devoted to devoid. Culturally, some of the greatest challenges we face in society are born in the first few years of the father-child relationship when he is not present or responsive. But the hope and power also exists in these precious first years--and beyond-- as research on father involvement has shown. Starting with the author's relationship with his father, Dr. Panepinto narrates his path from son to father. He offers how individuality, communication, and changing cultural norms influenced and challenged this foundational connection, and describes the continuum of common emotions felt in this space. And how the experience and reflection over time informed and transformed his views of fatherhood. Throughout the book, Dr. Panepinto weaves reflections and ideas on fatherhood as well as important developmental principles. Drawing on his clinical experience in development, attachment, and parenting, he shares concepts and tools in an approachable way. Using forms from short stories to blog posts, from articles to journal entries, the full experience of fatherhood is offered meaningfully and poignantly--and sure to make you laugh as well. A Father's Path offers an intergenerational view of son to father to son unlike any other. The Path offers a view from above the journey sure to inspire and encourage you to reflect on the relationships you had or have with your father, your grandfather, your sons, and if you are in that stage, your grandsons. And, most importantly, sense in a new way, the power, importance, and influence of fatherhood.

Book excerpt: The book "A Place to Call Home" is, in some small part, the author's biography - not a recording of individual episodes or events, but of emotions and thoughts at various stages in life. It is about the search to belong, to fit into a world that can be confusing. Most people experience such feelings at some stage in their life, but some feel more than others do. This, then, is the book of the consummate outsider in American society. It is about growing up in the lower working class - the unskilled factory laborers' world - under the old auspices of the American Dream in a world that seems to deny the existence of, or the opportunity for, such a dream. It expresses that anger and frustration, the observations, and the occasional joys of someone who grew up in the working class but had an eye that tried looking past that horizon of old brick buildings and housing developments. It is not that one can't overcome the obstacles which society places in the way; it is about the emotional toil that is extracted in such efforts. Each chapter is a mockery of the classical "Seven Ages of Man" writings. Each section vaguely deals with periods in life such as childhood, schooling, the search for religion, the working years, family, and so on. Poems written at those specific times are intermixed with poems looking back from later times to contrast the changing moods and visions of life. The core poems in this book follow the crests and valleys of emotional development in the author's life, but slowly and ultimately build to a crescendo of primal scream outrage and anger, followed by the calmer acceptance and resignation that come with middle age. The poems are predominantly from the years 1985-1997, with a few poems coming from earlier eras or more recent ones. The book is about contrasts so prevalent in America: the promises of the Camelot years and the realities of America at the end of the 20th Century; about wanting to believe in equality when everything is so unequal. The work is a documentation of a struggle to climb from anonymity and despair, if just to achieve something slightly better than what one's grandfather had. It is, lastly, about trying to find a place where one can be content and accept the terms of life.

Download Two Dimensions of Meaning PDF Format Full Free by Andrew Goatly and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-09-30 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book takes as its point of departure the notion that similarity and contiguity are fundamental to meaning. It shows how they manifest in oral, literate, print, and internet cultures, in language acquisition, pragmatics, dialogism, classification, the semantics of grammar, literature, and, most centrally, metaphor and metonymy. The book situates these reflections on similarity and contiguity in the interplay of language, cognition, culture, and ideology, and within broader debates around such issues as capitalism, biodiversity, and human control over nature. Positing that while similarity-focused systems can be reductive, and have therefore been contested in social science, philosophy, and poetry, and contiguity-based ones might disregard useful statistical and scientific evidence, Andrew Goatly argues for the need for humans to entertain diverse metaphors, models, and languages as ways of understanding and acting on our world. The volume also considers the cognitive connections between the similarity-contiguity duality and the noun-verb distinction. This innovative volume will appeal to scholars involved in wider debates on meaning, within the fields of cognitive semantics, pragmatics, metaphor and metonymy theory, critical discourse analysis, and the philosophy of language. Equally, the motivated and intelligent general reader, interested in language, philosophy, culture, and ecology, should find the later chapters of the book fascinating, and the earlier technical chapters accessible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A profound new approach to healing trauma, grounded in a radical reframing of how we understand this nearly universal experience For centuries, we’ve been taught that being traumatized means we are somehow broken—and that trauma only happens to people who are too fragile or flawed to deal with hardship. But as a researcher, teacher, and survivor, Dr. MaryCatherine McDonald has learned that the only thing broken is our society’s understanding of trauma. “The body’s trauma response is designed to save our lives—and it does,” she says. “It’s not a sign of weakness, but of our function, strength, and amazing resilience.” With Unbroken: The Trauma Response Is Never Wrong, Dr. McDonald overturns the misconceptions about trauma with the latest evidence from neuroscience and psychology—and shares tested practices and tools to help you work with your body’s coping mechanisms to accelerate healing. Here, you’ll explore: • What is trauma? The latest science that undoes the stigmas of shame, blame, and humiliation • Moral injury—having our basic sense of how the world should work overturned • The truth about triggers—what they really are and how they can guide the healing journey • Traumatic patterns—new findings to help break free from recurring habits and toxic dynamics • Why we can always rewrite our inner narratives, no matter how much time has passed • Finding a “relational home” for trauma—how we can help each other return to wholeness Dr. McDonald’s case studies reveal the many ways trauma can manifest and persist in our lives, yet there’s one factor every case has in common: the trauma response itself reveals the path to healing. “Our traumatic experiences reveal that we can be bent, dented, or bruised,” she says, “but we cannot be broken.” For anyone who has gone through trauma or wants to help others who are struggling, here is an empowering resource for finding our way home to our bodies, rebuilding our relationships, and returning to full engagement with life.
